HOW TO START SBI PO PREPARATION : NEW EXAM PATTERN

The SBI PO Prelims exam is the biggest exam conducted in India for filling vacancies in banking sector. Unlike every year, this time SBI has introduced some changes in its examination pattern. If you are planning to prepare for the SBI PO 2018 exam, you need to know these changes in the SBI PO Prelims exam and then start preparing afresh. This article will cover how to start preparation for SBI PO based on new exam pattern 2018.




Let us discuss the changed pattern in brief first. SBI PO exam will take place in 3 stages – Prelims, Mains and Interview.
Few important changes in the SBI PO recruitment exam 2018 are:
  •   SBI PO 2018 exam will have sectional timings in Prelims (20 minutes for      each section).
  •   However, there will be no sectional cutoffs in Prelims.
  •   There will be no sectional cut off in Mains as well.

Right books: There are many books in the market on SBI PO exam, but not all books are relevant. The candidates should pick the right books and study material that deal with the parts concerned which are examinable by SBI PO. Some of the books are



Choice of question: It is difficult to solve all the questions in the examination. So, pick those questions first about which you are sure. Develop the ability to spot tough and time-consuming questions quickly and try to avoid them in the first round of attempt. Come back to them only if you have time left. A very good reading speed of questions with understanding them is one of the key factors for clearing this exam.

Analysis of Previous Year Question Paper: Though there are changes in the exam patter, the syllabus is still same. So, candidates should solve previous year question papers again and again so that they can become habitual of solving similar type of questions during the exam.

Effective Study Plan: A good study plan is based on allotting significant time to each section. Divide proper resting time/gap between these sections while preparing. Quantitative aptitude tips for SBI PO Exam

Here, you must work on your basic mathematical ability as you need to be very quick and accurate with your calculations. To do so, start learning and revising tables till 20, squares, cubes and square roots. Try to get hold on some short-cuts and tricks for calculations, like knowing values of faction in percentage etc to gain the edge over other aspirants. Likewise, you can learn the fundamentals of Vedic mathematics and practice it daily.

Reasoning Ability tips for SBI PO Exam

This section is tricky and time consuming as it doesn’t have any set syllabus. This section tests analytical and logical ability of a candidate. The biggest part in this section is covered by Puzzles/Seating Arrangement. They are twisted so remember not to get stuck on puzzle or seating arrangement questions for too long. Do practice reasoning ability daily for at least 2-3 hours. Other questions like Input-Output, Coding-Decoding, Inequalities, Syllogisms, Direction Sense, Data Sufficiency, Ranking and Order, Critical reasoning – Assumptions, Conclusions, etc are also important as they don’t take much time and can be solved easily.

English Language tips for SBI PO Exam

For this section, read books and newspapers every day. Simply underline the new words that you encounter and finding the meaning, synonyms and antonyms of them from a dictionary. Reading will help you in knowing how to form sentences, proper use of idiom and phrase etc. If you have strong basics in English, then it becomes an easy task to score decent marks. You just need to read the newspaper and go through your handy notes every day and take the mock tests regularly. But if you are not so strong in basics then the first thing you should do is, buy some good books for grammar and try to understand it.

General/Economy/Banking awareness tips for SBI PO Exam

This section is the game changer of mains examination. You need to be well prepared with current affairs of past 2-3 months. It requires you to be in touch with many subjects and have a thorough awareness of important happenings worldwide. To score maximum in this section, make a habit of reading newspapers daily. Other than this, don’t forget to brush up your facts regarding awareness about history, geography, basic science etc.

Follow Mock Tests: For preparing any competitive exam, it is very important to go for mock test. But this should be done only after completion of your full syllabus. Giving mock tests provides you an opportunity to prepare for the problems faced in the examination situation.
